http://scene-stealers.com Eric Melin and guest host Trevan McGee (from InkKC.com) review the bleak new Cormac McCarthy adaptation The Road. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Road was directed by John Hillcoat and follows a father (Viggo Mortensen) and son (Kodi McPhee) as they journey across a scorched Earth after the apocalypse. Does it live up to the emotional heights of the book? Is it a paean to fatherhood or a numbing exercise in depression? Find out in this review of The Road with clips from the movie.

  • this movie rips out your emotions forces you to eat , makes you puke it back up then eat it again. Then you leave feeling like your missing a chunk of your soul.

  • @cidseven Agreed. The winners of the awards are always overrated. Avatar won basically because the pumped a shit load of money into it. The story itself is ripped from dancing with wolves.

  • Read the book first saw the film after- so it was a bit of a let down in that regard- as the book was tremendous. But I would call it a great film. It is the rare film that makes me ponder and think and even dwell for even a few days after. This film had me doing all those things for a couple weeks. I don't quite think I have ever been as affected by any other film- and for the better- though it took some time and thinking first. This is a film that takes some bravery to think about.

  • @baddude1337 Avatar... was horrible... the story dragged out... and after a while it was boring... but this movie? It was amazing!

  • this movie is one of the most depressing movies ive seen. the only movie that was more depressing was the ending of The Mist

  • See the film twice. First time it reminds you of the genius of the book, the second time will remind you of the brilliance of the film...

  • @jaybee863

The problem I found with the movie is that it just didn't seem that well executed :P

  • @WiggieWomper. Fair points, I personally look for the whole package when it comes to a story, I want to know why it happened. It would be like Lord of The Rings just skipping the part where frodo obtains the ring and just telling you the story about how he destroyed it. To the other point, I'm no bomb shelter expert but I believe most are built with a mechanism to be locked from the inside but whatever..

  • @craigdestroyer 1.The movie isn't about the post apocalyptic world around them 2.I loved the story so that's just personal opinion 3.I think when he heard the dog that he expected that people would be with it and eventually they would be discovered 4. You're right I mean even if you don't have an education and death is all around, you should know what's going to happen when a bullet goes in your skull.

  • Downfalls for me: 1.am I the only one who was annoyed by the fact you never find out why the world ended up this way? 2.The story was so VERY boring. 3. why do they leave the secure underground bunker just because a dog was barking outside, i mean if the shelter was designed to keep bombs out.. you get the point.

    3. 'papa, when will i seee you again?' well im about to shoot you in the head so perhaps never? im not sure.

  • i dont think it was cliche at all, most hollywood remakes etc go for cliche. This was pretty good and a sad ending
