Many of us think like Frodo at some moment or other in our lives "I wish this would have never happened to me". We all need someone like Gandalf to show us the ray of hope.

@vars280287 the point is we don't need someone like gandalf . in my opinion tolkien's ,message isn't about teachers and mentors (if i spell it right) it's about the strength of will which keeps us in our track so we can achieve our purpose whether it's hard or easy.After all galadriel says it right ""Even the smallest person can change the course of the future."

many people don't realize that tolkien was a christian. I can spot many christian attributes in this movie. Frodo is a form of christ who was delivering, and bearing the ring, and sam was a form of an apostle who helped him on the way. Thats what i see.
