Bradford School of Music founder Andrew Clark recorded a master class CD for Saxophone Journal in 2011 that featured tributes to three great rock saxophonists - King Curtis, Junior Walker and "The Big Man" Clarence Clemons. This track is dedicated to the memory of Clarence Clemons.
I recorded this in my office earlier this year. On this track I tried to capture Clarence's approach to the saxophone. I used a simple drum loop and I played the piano, B3, bass and the sax solo. Charlie Hunt played guitar. The sax solo was recorded in three takes. The first take runs for the first 3:10 of this song. Then there are two short sections that were punched in. The edits are pretty clean so I don't think you will notice where I punched in. I have always felt that the first couple of takes that a musician plays are usually the best so I was very happy to get over three minutes of soloing down before I had to punch in. I tried to send this song to Clarence before he passed away but I don't think it got through to him. I hope you all enjoy my tribute to one of the greatest rock sax players of all time.
Amazing! You did of course do the "Big Man" justice, before I read your info I thought it was Clarence Clemons, excellant playing you could shoot flies out of the sky with your altissimo!!!!
