The Cape Cod Healthcare Academy is set up in a two ways:
1. A clinical program where they teach their incumbent workers new skills.
2. A management program where employees learn how to manage the work, manage themselves and manage others.
The first level management program teaches planning, directing, organizing and controlling. At the mid level Cape Cod Healthcare covers managing people and managing work. Finally, the upper level program looks at healthcare from a strategic level. What is healthcare all about? What are the economic factors involved? How do the economics effect day to day management.
Cape Cod Health Care is always preparing for the future. Although currently well staffed, they realize the importance of maintaining a talent pipeline. They also work closely with local colleges, in a selective way, to educate their senior people about the healthcare industry.
Richard has found that having well educated managers increases the quality of feedback and helps promote clear expectations. This has helped them increase completion of performance evaluations as well. They've gone from about an 80% completion rate to a 96% completion rate. Employee satisfaction has also risen from 85% to somewhere in the high nineties.
