KTXL TV-40 (Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto), broadcasting from Sacramento, CA since 1968, was an independent UHF broadcast station for most of its early years, before becoming the FOX network affiliate for the Sacramento TV market. (To which some folks would most likely say it was a step down in terms of quality and local color for Channel 40.)

In any case, here's a sign-on from 1995, when they were owned by Channel 40, Inc., and Renaissance Communications Corp. This clip came off a VHS tape, and aired at just a few minutes before 5:30 am Pacific time in 1995, tucked in between "Highlander: The Animated Series" and DIC's English-language adapatation of "Sailor Moon." (KTXL TV-40 broadcast 24/7 every day, and went off the air in the wee hours of Sunday night/Monday morning)

  • i remember the fox 40 sign on/sign off in the late 80 but I had no idea they still did it as late as 1995

  • @Fusionx916 Yeah, they'd stick it in right between early morning cartoons weekdays.

This one was right after "Highlander: The Animated Series" concluded for the day, and right before DiC's adaptation of "Sailor Moon" aired, so after this, it went right into the preview for that day's episode.

  • The version of the TV 40 logo you see here (All I have is a postage-size image of their most well-known "rainbow" logo), I guess, would be sort of a bridge, connecting the familiarity of the "40" logo, while identifying their branding as "Fox 40," which they would be more commonly know from this point onward. I'd say this was within their first decade of being a Fox network affiliate.

  • This is my station!!! Modesto CA! I remember when I was little and I was the only one awake I would feel better when I saw the sign on because I knew it was morning.

  • @ih8ContentID They're entitled to their opinion, I guess, but, deep down, I miss the pre-Fox era 40 - I'm surprised they paid some kind of respect to their early era with the 40th anniversary special back in 2008. I guess it's better than nothing.

  • By the way, I want to see the FOX40 bumper when it used to do "FOX40's here for you!".

  • I remember seeing this when I used to get up hella early in the morning to watch something. Man, those were the good old days. Waking at 5:00 AM to tune into Masked Rider.

  • In my area market, we used to have a Fox affiliate on channel 40 from 1987-1988. Our channel 40 call letters back then was WAXA TV40. The station owner Frank Outlaw had passed away in 1988 and channel 40 went dark until 1991 (but our Fox affliate moved to WHNS 21). Channel 40 in my area was an independent station numerous times but now it's affiliated with My Network TV.

  • All I have of their old "Rainbow" logo is a postage-stamp-sized one I got off their web site, or somewhere on the web aeons ago. Of course, I could probably screen-capture off videos on here, and try to clean them up or similarly re-create them. I'll have to dig through my tapes to see if I have anything prior to 1995, but I didn't start seriously taping stuff before 1987. I, too, am surprised there aren't any intros or bumpers for LaBrie's Night Comfort Theatre, but I remember the music well.

  • I remember Heidi's!I used to live off of Fruitridge not too far from the station, and I remember that place!
