@skiwhh I'm 48 and a beginner and I can tell you why. As much as I would love to carve like this right now, many of those slopes are too intimidating and I need to learn how to have full control - the ability to stop within a few yards - in order to have the guts to start down some of these runs.

@FToniS Can you balance on all four edges (try them one at a time in a gentle downhill traverse)? If you can't then you very likely have alignment issues holding you back. Get a qualified alignment specialist to check it out and dial your boots in. Skiing is a balance sport, so if you find the Phantom Move difficult, it would be well worth your time to figure out what is holding you back. If you want some help, post some video in the PMTS forum.

@geoffda Sounds so easy, but I find it difficult to do the "phantom" move.

what about weight distribution re the phantom move, im guessing you wouldnt want too much weight, if any, on the inside ski you have just lifted and tipped...???

@musikmaniak100 So you are telling everyone that your grandmother skis better than you, nice! Post some video of your skiing rather than talking stupid.

How is it that recreational skiers don't want to learn the easy way? They would rather go through traditional teaching systems with obsolete maneuvers like, the wedge, wedge turn and stem turns. It keeps those instructors in business.

It may just seem like a simple move, but it incorporates the most important movements in skiing into a simple package: Lift/lighten the old stance ski releases the turn and allows the forces from the old turn to help pull you into the new. In addition, it forces you to transfer balance to what will be the stance ski for the new turn. Finally, tipping will also help move you into the new turn and it will enable you to engage your new edges. Try it and watch your skiing take off.

@geoffda If skiers only knew what you know; they would have an easier time improving quickly.
