http://GrowingUpOtaku.com is back with a second look at the Onlive cloud based video gaming service. In the last video we looked at how Onlive worked using the hardware designed by and for the Onlive service. Today we roll our own!

Gape in as we as we take a 4 year old Eee-PC 900 netbook and attempt to run the games Split/Second, Red Faction: Guerilla, and, current PC benchmarking darling, Metro 2033.

Is it possible to replace $300 video game consoles and $800+ 'Gaming PCs' with some old piece of junk lying around? Join us on our lulzy quest to find out!

An extended look at Metro 2033 on this same system can be found here:

  • the only problem with onlive is any games which are not being played but you play may get taken off and will never be streamed again. So lets say ut3 gets no more activity and there is only a handful of servers. They will just remove it and move on to a different game. Which I feel is not worth buying a game to not be able to use it after. But A subscription would have made more sense.

  • @BunchyMountain You're right about availability issues. We've even seen games pulled from Steam recently in their little tiff with EA. OnLive actually does offer a subscription service as well, it just does not included the newest releases.

  • does multiplayer work?

  • @rakib567 Yes, but matches are frequently restricted to users of the OnLive service.

  • could you possibly play split screen with another controller on onlive by any chance?

  • @LINKINFORLIFE If it is supported in the PC of the games, yes.

  • @khainguyen98

onlive doesnt depend on system specs but on internet connection

  • damn this is good, on that small laptop with no lag on those games!!???

  • @khainguyen98 none?

  • I really like onlive, but its bandwidth usage is a huge-ass problem. I also like the frame rate, although another problem is controller reaction time.

  • So this means I can play Battlefield play4free on my Asus Eee PC 1005HA with no problem, I mean I have a 1.60GHz cpu, 1GB of ram, 500GB hard drive and game booster.

  • oh god i didnt look at the time of this vid until i got halfway through it lol

  • @right2byte Those EA games that got removed from Steam? Yeah, I can redownload all of them if I've purchased them before. I can still download my copy of Crysis 2.

  • sorry, didnt watch the rest before posting

  • what kind of 150$ netbook has 4gb of ram with a 3ghz processor!?!
