Let's play Fading Shades

Good news at the end of all this bla bla !!! :-)

This is a short freeware game with beautiful graphics and music. Yet, the story leaves me clueless, although I was able to finish the game within somewhat under 30 minutes.

There is a long sequence with a diary. Also see my annotations. As it is hard to read, here's the context: The protagonist, obviously a girl named Rebecca is mobbed at her job and all in all a very unsuccessful person. She works hard but others are rewarded for her efforts. Her parents pick on her.

As the situation gets unbearable for her, she tries to commit suicide. This is the first faded page you will see and it tells you that this was written in the future... (????).

Then there are more faded pages where the situation seems to improve for Rebecca. Her mobbers, Anne and Steve, get fired, she gets a better job in the company and a raise....

And then, after reading through all that, it reads.... "So, I am dead"....

WHAT???

I mean, somehow this was clear in the beginning when we saw the rainbow bridge. But still, it is confusing.

Well, just watch the playthrough until the end. Then tell me what you think about the story.

The game developer wrote me a mail, and here's her explanation:

"Rebecca hates her life and tries to commit suicide (shown as drops of blood on the last page she wrote herself), but fails. Instead, she ends up in a coma. This is where you are when you explore this strange world. Rebeccas body lies at the hospital.

She doesn't remember this until she discovers her diary. There is no "where am I" questions from her, because she is in a coma. (It's like when you dream. You never wonder where you are or what's going on. You're just there,
and accepts whatever you see. Nomatter how weird it is).

The future pages of the diary are written when she wakes up at the hospital. She writes about her failing suicide attempt and how surprised she is to see the flowers and greeting cards from everyone. After passing the rainbow
bridge, she wakes up from the coma. That is why the game ends at a hospital.

After reading the diary, Rebecca says "So I'm dead!?" - Well in her awareness, she is. The last thing she remembers is that she comitted suicide.. She hasn't written the other pages .. yet."

wait, what happend to the bars??? it said you had to find a way to break them but you did nothing about them after that...wierd

@jadevegablack: Choosing the right demon (of hate) picture on the wall made the bars disappear :-)
