NYFA Exercise 003: Music Montage is a creative treatment in feature films and has been employed with great frequency over the last three decades. There are a couple of criteria for making a music montage work. Primarily, the song that is used must be a appropriate one. Tired, overplayed songs would take the viewer away the film, perhaps where they remember that song in their own life. The music montage inside the film should advance the plot. In the process, it should be aware of something that we were not aware of before the song started. Finally, it should fit the film. (ARRI S: 16mm reversal / Shooting 8hrs/ Final Cut Pro / Editing 4hrs/ Sound)
