Can he do it?

I can't answer questions like: what about Rod Laver, etc. Yes. Open Era began in '68 and Laver won all 4 slams in '69 ('62 as well). Maybe it's different because when Laver did it, 3 of the 4 slams were played on grass? I really don't know. When Nadal won the US Open he became the first male tennis player to hold three Grand Slam singles titles on three different surfaces at the same time. Perhaps that is why wining the Australian Open is being emphasized as unique. This question of whether Rafa "can do it" keeps being asked by multiple sources, including Eurosport, ESPN, etc., so I think it must be valid.

  • the only thing that can stop him is injury

  • @yodudewassp congrads for jinxing!

  • @multiplemike You are absolutely right

  • @stalagmite I copied this from Rod Lavers wikipedia page: Rodney George "Rod" Laver MBE (born 9 August 1938) is an Australian former tennis player and was the World No. 1 player for seven consecutive years, from 1964 to 1970. He is the only tennis player to have twice won the Grand Slam (all four major singles titles in the same year) — first as an amateur in 1962 and second as a professional in 1969.

  • @multiplemike I was looking at wikipedia (of course is not a scientific journal ) and it says that he won them on 1962 and 1967. and you are right the open era began in 1968.

  • @stalagmite I'm pretty sure that Laver won his second calender slam in 1969, a year after the open era began. He won the first in 1962. I agree that it's probably harder now to win because of the different surfaces.

  • @multiplemike Like someone already said Rod Laver did it but not on the open era and if I'm not wrong all of them were played on grass but he Frech pro that was played on clay except on 1967 were it was indoor wood.

So now is even harder, all are different surfaces.
