July 4th, 2005: Artist Dave Cole employs two backhoe tractors to knit a giant American flag in his installation called, The Knitting Machine.

okay, so i have decided that the needles they used are made from aluminum light posts.. cos, ZOMG OMG THAT HUGE!!

That has got to be the hardest way imaginable to knit... but the end result, the American Flag, is as always, beautiful.
