The last song ABBA ever recorded is one of their most introspective and melancholy. A woman looking back and realizing how monotonous and empty her life has been before meeting a special someone. It is a sad song but there is also hope, because of this meeting that may change her life. It is said Agnetha sang her vocal with the lights off and everyone in the studio felt that this would probably be the last time ABBA were to record together. Benny and Björn wanted Agnetha to sound like an everyday woman, not like the superstar she was, and made her half sing, half speak her words, not allowing her to really pack a punch vocally like she did on The Winner Takes It All, for example. She was not very happy about this choice, but time has proven the boys right, since it has become one of ABBA's most enduringly popular tracks.

The original video, featuring actor Jonas Bergström, was shot at Tumba station, outside Stockholm, and the bridge featured in the magnificent arial shot of the train is the Årstabron bridge. The shots of the band performing were shot at The Chinese Theater in Stockholm (these were edited out of my video), the car park scenes are at Arlanda Airport.

3 Very talented amateur photographers have kindly given me permission to use some of their beautiful photographs of Stockholm in this video. Thank you Jonathan, Henrik and Lode!

For full credits, please watch the video all the way to the end.

  • Hallo Matt, is dit de bass-line van ´Austin Howard´ met ´I´m the one who really loves you´? Goede remix. Super!!!!

  • @cantforgetyou

Nee, ik heb de bas geprogrammeerd zoals ik het wilde hebben. had geen specifieke andere plaat in gedachten. Fijn dat je hem goed vindt :)

  • Hi Matt, just wanted to say that this is the BEST Abba mix I have ever heard...

You did a GREAT job here... gorgeous....

And how wonderful Agnetha was ( is ) in this clip, I always felt that this was her

best performance in an Abba clip, and she looked more beautiful then ever...

  • @steefb

I agree about Agnetha in this video; her flirting on the train always gave me goosebumps.

  • Can I just say the "Head Over Heels" sample and the incorporation of a snippet of the 'Dallas' theme - genius!!! I live for your mixes! =)

  • I personally hate remixes because it ruins the true essence of the song BUT this is a great exception. WOW. I can't get over with it. IT really satisfied my greatest expectation on how this song had to be made. You give justice to this song. Thank ou so much for this remix.

And hey Matt, please make also a remix for the song "hole in your soul." W ITH THE great emphasizing of agnetha's B5 note. The high note in the bridge of that song.

    Thanks.

  • The Dallas sample at the point Agnetha tells us that she's sure she had her dinner whilst watching something on TV is......sublime. Simple. And sublime.

  • After i find out how to eliminate the fucking copyright notice ( clip didn`t start ) at many clips in germany I must say this is your sadest but maybe also your best ABBA mix. Thanks a lot.

  • Matt Pop ... you are pure genius ... I love all your mixes, but you really have outdone yourself this time. I just wish you were able to get the record companies permissions to make your mixes commercially available. Please look into it ... it would certainly be a best-seller.

  • @MattPopOfficial Oké. Moet je voor de lol eens luisteren naar die bass line van Austin Howard, als je tijd hebt. Lijkt er best wel op.

  • @cdpetee Never picked up on the Dallas 'quote' the first listen. wow!! made me laugh in a good way!

  • I have to say that I litereally called out OH MY GOD during the into! I was floored!!!! It took my favorite part of the song and made it so epic and spooky... and then comes 'Head Over Heals'! Very nice indeed. My only issue is that some of what was done may be over powering the overall sadness of this song that I've come to Love so much! Still, I love this remix like all of your other ABBA work! ♥

  • And Lay All Your Love on Me. Really ace remixes!
