I don't think Bogarde was a liar as poster ytrogergt suggests, he felt he did not have to go public as you can easily read between the lines.

You don't have to be "Out" to be out He lived with Tony for over 40 years and was known in Hollywood as a gay man,. Many people are living honestly without going public. Anderson Cooper, Vin Deisel and Chris Pine come to mind as gay men iiving as honestly without needing a People Magazine cover to scream "I'm gay!"
I have a lot of respect for Dirk.

Personally I don't care if Dirk admitted to being gay or didn't. After all, his private life was no else's business. But as he pointed out during the interview with Harty, if readers would just read between the lines of his writings, they'd understand him. That is quite sad that Dirk didn't want to continue a relationship with Tony's son after Tony's death. Perhaps it was just too painful for Dirk. One can't blame him for isolating himself after the end of such a long & happy union.
