Dedicated to Jenny Fielder - a member of my college music group.
The Sakura: Theme and Variations are Yocho's most famous piece, written with the traditional Japanese folk tune Sakura ( Cherry Blossoms) as his inspiration. There are seven sections to the piece, Introduction, Theme, Variation 1,2,3,4, and Coda. Each variation is very different in texture and technique, including the use of harmonics and tremolo. The piece also requires playing at times very close to the bridge to imitate the sound of the 'koto', a Japanese instrument.
