5)For comparison purposes if one data set has a small SD and another has a large SD, then the mean with the smaller SD more fairly represents its data points.
6)In loose terms, SD tells you how good your mean is.
7)In our example if the distribution of car prices is bell shaped, we could add and subtract the SD to the mean and then say that 68% of values should lie within this range.

Standard Deviation (SD) is a numerical measure that does these things:
1)Tells you the average deviation each data point is from the mean (AVERAGE function)
2)Is a measure of variation or dispersion
3)Tells you how clustered the data points are around the mean
4)Helps you to decide if the mean fairly represents the data points.

Is naming the cells the same as selecting a range? (Is the naming of cells dynamic, like selecting a range?)

No they are different, but the numbers from both a range and a named range will go into the function, like SUM.
A range and a named range are both dynamic in the sense that if you insert a row between the two end cells, they will both update.
