Alexander McCall Smith writes the No1 Ladies Detective Agency from his two rooms in Edinburgh. See more of the Book Show and more at www.andyhumphreys.co.uk
@pildskadden A Scottish trait? How unbearably patronising.
I don't find him annoying or pompous. He writes several books a year and I imagine that the secretaries have quite a lot of work on their hand due to the ramifications of that.
@Razieluk I agree. I think he's completely full of himself, bragging, and very very annoying. I loved the first 4 or 5 books of No1 Ladies-series, but after that: no more Mr. McCall Smith for me. I think maybe it's a Scottish trait - this self-importance, unfortunately in this man combined with a lack in charm.

Don't you think he's rather full of his own importance? So he has two secretaries, do we really think this is what happens?
