Chinese Stand for Democracy
Getting Public Support

Shenzhen human rights activists gather public support for democracy in China.

On Chinese New Year's Eve, human rights activists made a brave move. They held a banner on the street in Shenzhen that says, "2008, looking forward to a democratic China." Many people supported their actions. Let's ask them why they'd take such a risk to promote democracy on the mainland.
STORY:
Shenzhen human rights activists Zou Tao, the founder of the "Do not buy property" civil campaign, and Li Tie, the web master for the Chinese web site "helpeachpeople.com", held the banner in the busiest areas of Shenzhen. The banner says "2008, looking forward to a democratic China." In order to avoid attention from the authorities, they only have two people do this at a time. The public response has been very enthusiastic.
[Zou Tao, Shenzhen Human Rights Activist]: Quote 2, male
"The passers-by were very supportive. Some people also volunteered to help us hold the banner, because this is the desire everyone has, the desire for democracy, the desire for a lawful society and the desire for social fairness and justice."
Zou Tao says his actions are legal according Chinese law. He hopes to awaken more people to pursue democracy by peaceful means.
[Zou Tao, Shenzhen Human Rights Activist]:
"Nowadays, we have so many social problems, for instance, prices are so high, education difficulties, medical care, the issue of corruption, some unfair things, then dark matters. It is because our society hasn't got democracy. We hope that every citizen has the social awareness to promote democracy."
Zou Tao and Li Tie call on Chinese people to exercise their citizen rights granted by the constitution to fight for democracy.

  • What you said in the video applies to the world. The worse is in the US. Look at the economies now it has as is March 2008. Anyone who has anything involved in the finacial or stock market worldwide has suffered from their badly, poorly managed economy. Their currency policy has made a lot of people suffer worldwide. I am one of them at the least. Surely it is a matter of opionion. Yet, same applies to yours.

Awareness - China gets more and more supports worldwide. Thank you very much.
