A short lesson teaching how to achieve the percussive sounding sweeping technique employed by Shane Gibson (and others). Focuses on the right/left hand technique, and basic information on how/why it sounds the way it does.

Lesson is by Brian Sheu aka Refried Bean on the Racer X forums. Find more guitar videos of his at http://www.youtube.com/cheesyplay3000

The music is also by Brian, and you can find his music at www.myspace.com/serramonteband

  • Hey Brian, amazing lesson!

  • @UACDOOM You probably didn't watch the video. It's a different technique inside sweep picking; in which the right hand is slightly muting the strings, in a slightly circular motion, and the left hand barely moves the fingers, keeping the chord fingered.

It's different from the 'standard' technique, and Shane Gibson is probably the most recognizable player to use that technique; which is why the video is named like that. Of course, Chris Storey uses it as well, and many others.

  • sweep like shane gibson? please dude, sweepicking has been around before shane gibson had a guitar in his hands...he's a nobody

  • can you sweep my room?

  • Nice. john petrucci does it too...check the sessions with sterling ball

  • thank you, that was really instructionnal, and btw that is a pretty weird guitar you have!

  • Sorry. I live in a house with a huge ceiling so there's a lot of echo in that room. I do the other videos in my room.

  • The song can be found on my band myspace, which is in the description and credits. It is Demo 4, Haemon.

Thanks for checking out my lesson. I was not taught this by Shane (to clear up any confusion), this technique was based on my observation of his playing.
