This bike was laid up in 1977. This is it's first start in 32 years. Sounds a bit wild because the right hand muffler is missing..

  • Is this a Dommie 500 or a Dommie 99?

  • @CARBr6 It's a 99. Since this video it has been back on the road for 9 months, been rebored and new valves and guides etc etc. Running better than ever. Good luck with yours!

That does not seem an interesting comment! You obviously like the 50's bike experience then, with electronic ignition/belt drive etc. That old girl started after 32 years without all those insane modern modifications. If you want 100% reliability, buy a modern bike. For gords sake lighten up a bit.

    Cheers

  • @vacuumvibe Couldn't have said it better myself. The point being that this was a bike with no modern nonsense being started for the first time in a very long time. Cheers

  • @artwood4 Thank You

  • I cannot wait until I am ready to post video like this of my '59 Dommie 99

  • Yes! A Norton Dominator 500. This is the same one my dad had. He bought it new, I think, in 1959 and was so proud of it and how he could beat everything else on the road at the time. He drove it to work from Harrow to London every day and kept it in the garden shed. He only complained the clutch was rather heavy. Before that, he had 350cc AJS. I still have a photo of him on each of them. At that time helmets were not compulsory, so he never wore one.

  • @rolandpacteau I have a '57 Dominator. It doesn't have a belt drive, or electronic ignition. In fact, it's all original, and it starts first kick every time.

  • This does not seem to be an interesting video.

I have a '59 Dommie which I have had restored and fitted with electronic ignition / belt drive etc.

It starts every time when I tickle it and kick it over. It steers. It stops.

This is not rocket science or magic. When they are in good condition they work.....

So why are you posting a video of you starting up a Dommie ?

    rgds,

    Roland.

  • Nice old girl. Good luck with the re-commisioning. I've just bought a 58 in the same colour. First outing this weekend with a bit of luck.

    Cheers

    Graham
