Guinness World Record holders Helen and John Taylor drove diesel-powered Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot through six European countries - on one tank of fuel each. The production model SUVs carried two passengers, luggage, and still got 55-56 miles per U.S. gallon.

this is really inspiring. I get the best 39mpg from my Patriot 2.0diesel on a motoway. I should adopt a different way of driving it. I think I do too much speeding and breaking. What's the difference between US MPG and MPG,are they longer? May be I get US MPG reading on the speedo, then it's alright

I would like to have a Diesel engine in my 2008 Jeep Patriot too.
I get about about 30 MPH. People here on the eastern seaboard drive as if they are insane.
For example, I drive just under the speed limit. If the speed limit is 65, they will drive about 10 MPH or so over.
I say let them go...Hell ain't full yet and I don't have to pay for their fuel.

That is amazing. I know lots of people that want diesel jeeps in the US especially the off road guys but they just wont build them here. It is pathetic. People get excited when someone gets 40mpgs in a prius, they have no clue what is possible with diesels, we are kept in the dark. The Jeep liberties that they built here a few years ago with diesel engines started peaking peoples interest and now they don't build them anymore in anything reasonably affordable for the middle class. It's a shame.
