http://www.themindfulartist.com Artist Michele Théberge demonstrates vivid, rich color effects created by staining technique on canvas similar to what Helen Frankenthaler did in her magnificent works of the 50s and 60s.

  • Hello Michele, what is the name of the supplier of the medium you call "flow aid"? I use Lascaux acrylics, but am new to acrylic, do you know what their equivelant to "flow aid" would be called? Thanks.

  • @gregoryklugersmart Thanks for your comments! I did some research and Lascaux doesn't make anything comparable. I was using Liquitex flow-aid in this demonstration. Be aware, it is concentrated, so don't use it full strenghth. It is diluted 20:1 with water. So one 4 oz bottle makes one gallon.

  • No they are acrylic inks (Liquitex). The ph martin dyes fade within weeks if exposed to light. I learned the hard way on that unfortunately with some drawings I did using them. The acrylic pigments will not fade.

  • Thanks for your swift response! I am using Lascaux paint, but will get the Liquitex flow aid and hopefully there will be no issues with compatibility. Am I understanding you correctly, that the mix of water (20) to flow aid (1) should be scrubbed into the raw cotton duck and then pouring/staining can commence whilst the cotton duck is still wet, to facilitate the stain process? Are the results less satisfactory then if one does not use the flow aid and water mix before staining?

  • Are those dr ph martins dyes in the dropper bottles?
