After interacting with a number of folks here on YouTube, it has become clear to me that some of my professional goals can potentially be pursued on YouTube. I grew up as a collector in Kansas, but I have since entered the scientific realm of archaeology.

Basically, I think that collectors and professionals need to form a symbiotic relationship; collectors can benefit from the conclusions of professionals, and professionals can benefit from the data provided by collectors. A professional goal of mine is to promote the communications between collectors and professionals.

That said, these are three professional volumes that pertain to the archaeology of the NW Ozarks region. Jack Ray and Neal Lopinot are essentially the authorities on this region. The volumes in this video are the most comprehensive and detailed look at archaeology in the NW Ozarks region that you will find. So if you live in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, or Arkansas, then these volumes will tell you quite a bit about the stuff you've been finding. They are not cheap, but I guarantee that they are worth every cent.

Lastly, this is not a video to promote these three volumes or the entities that produced them. I am merely attempting to direct interested individuals to the resources that will educate them about their collections and/or data and observations.

  • What is the best forum to hook up with other ozarks collectors \ hunters?

  • @TJVermillion It depends upon where you're located. Other than what I do on YouTube, I don't really have any involvement in avocational culture. Regardless of where you are, you should have a state anthropological or archaeological society. The most knowledgeable collectors I've run into were folks volunteering for a few days on professional research excavations on the High Plains. If you're in Missouri, the Missouri Archaeological Society might be a good start. Google it. They have a website.

  • you are sooo professional! you are inspiring me to be a "professional" like yourself. you are soooo cool. i want to be a scientific scientist like you.

  • @banjerpicker Hopefully that is sincerity. It could very easily be sarcasm. But I highly encourage any collector to delve more deeply into the literature than Lar Hothem or the Overstreet guides. I highly recommend these books to people in the NW Ozark region. Maybe one of these days, I'll summon the motivation to write a book on the archaeology of this region from a collector's perspective.

  • Hey, you won't be disappointed in the books. They are technical. One thing I forgot to note was that in the Archaic volume, they had quite a bit of collector involvement. It is a perfect example of what can be accomplished when professionals and collectors collaborate. Would love to see your Calf Creek find.

  • Sounds hot boys, I gargle piss.

  • If it wasn't for the professionals you wouldn't know what a clovis point was if you found one and so you would just have a weird looking point that was no more important to you than any other artifact in your collection. Any amateur who belittles and bad mouths professionals and is unwilling to work with them or respect them is nothing but an amateur idiot arrowhead relic picker who knows absolutely nothing about the science of archaeology and doesn't care. .

  • You know what, I am an amateur collector that has been collecting for over forty years. During those years I have collaborated with many professional archaeologists on different sites and projects and have never had anything besides a positive experience with all of them. .

  • Hey banjerpicker. I think your are being sarcastic about midesti's video. This kid is my son and he is a professional, and has worked very hard to become one.

  • Thanks for the info! I am in the process of trying to get these books. I also have a calf creek find to show you sometime.
