@jon204 Macro mode is for focusing subjects that are up close to the camera. By up close, I mean inches away. Almost all cameras have that feature, including the Webbie. The Webbie does not, however, have any manual focus controls.

I used it to take this clip, yes. I don't use it very often though. I mostly got it to play around with.

your using that video camera right?
-
Wow. Yeah. Wish I had seen this test footage before I bought the Webbie. Oh well, I'm saving up for a $1K camera regardless. The Webbie does what I need it to anyhow.
I just bought this camcorder. How to I "focus" on a certain text or an object?

As far as I can tell, it just focuses on whatever is in the center of the frame. There doesn't seem to be any way to set a focus target, unfortunately.

I use this camera for work and I don't even bother with the HD features. (Jell-O Cam anyone?) The camera is extremely sharp in recording SD and many of the problems associated with distortion, dropped frames, etc.. go away in SD.
I'm not sure there are any really acceptable HD capable cam corders below the $450 mark right now. Not ones I can show to clients anyway...

The Canon PowerShot SD960 seems to do a pretty good job. Google "cabel name sd960" for some good test footage which demonstrates the lack of rolling shutter. On the minus side it's in a compact camera form factor rather than camcorder, so it's probably less than optimal for extended video shooting.
