When the british series The Avengers headed into the fourth season Diana Rigg as Emma Peel took up the role as John Steed's trusty partner.

This is from series 4 episode 1 "The Town of No Return" which aired 28 September 1965. John Steed is played by Patrick Macnee and the episode was directed by Roy Ward Baker and Peter Graham Scott.

Emma Peel got her name from the british film term M-appeal, something appealing to men. It was the producers idea that she would be the shows appeal to males, and they sure was right.

Sadly the first season of The Avengers seems to be all lost by the tv archives. Diana Rigg went on to be James Bond's wife Tracy Di Vicenzo. Her fellow Avengers Patrick Macnee and Honor Blackman also did roles in Bond-movies.

I think the fourth season is the best...This is my favorite...

One hell of a first appearance! Interesting that Emma, like Cathy Gale before her, was clearly not an "agent" like Steed at this time. But in later episodes it appeared that she was.
