Joy Suliman prepared a Google Earth presentation about her Alessi kettle in gratitude to how it makes her feel when she makes her cup of tea in the mornings. She geo-tagged a photo of the Michael Graves Blue Kettle with Bird Whistle on her stovetop in her apartment and then created a tag for the Powerhouse Museum's Inspired! exhibition in Google Earth. From there we travel to Portland in the United States too another example of architect Michael Graves' designs - what claims to be the first postmodern building. Finally we land in the Italin city which boasts to be the home of the Alessi design studio. Now when Joy watches her birdy sing on the stove she thinks about the global story behind her treasured object. Joy delivered this presentation at the 2009 Museums Australia conference in Newcastle. If you want to know how Joy made this presentation go to the CAN Outreach blog at www.collectionsaustralia.net/publisher/Outreach.
