This is a chocolate fruit cake decorated with fondant and royal icing made for my husband's birthday. It's my first fruit cake and my first time using fondant.

  • thats so pretty ! he'll luv it !!

  • @gusndot1 Thanks!

  • I rub Crisco all over my work area and then I put the icing sugar on top of the Crisco. And then roll out the fondant. I stop a few times to make the fondant can still be moved. I have never had the fondant stick or rip while doing this. Hope that helps!

  • @jesslain2009 thanks ...I'll try that.

  • You can always chop up the amount of fondant that you need and then heat it up for about 20 seconds or so in the microwave or add corn syrup. You can roll it out, but it is very hard to at first :)

  • @Nest1089 Thanks for that ... & actually I have since tried the idea of microwaving for a while. I was doing this with small pieces for flowers etc ... initially worked well, but if I did it too many times (ie, rezapping left over bits that I had already microwaves) it got hard and crumbly and I had to throw it out.

  • Looks amazing. :-)

  • beautiful!

  • where did you get the marshmallow fondant recipe? and how does it taste?

  • @ROBOBECCA what is sugarveil? (Possibly we call it by a different name in Australia?)

  • @power2thepoeple13 thanks. I tried icing sugar, but next time I'll give the corn starch a try.
