An amazing 4 hour flight in convergence over the Blue Mountains.

A convergence zone had parked behind launch and was within glide distance of a single climb where it remained relatively stationary for a couple of hours. Andy and I flew a 40km+ out and return along the leading edge.

The two hours after this aren't on video, but the convergence zone advanced into the valley and the flying conditions became even better. Smooth, 700ft/min non-stop climbs up the side of mountain-like clouds.

Apart from being a fantastic experience in itself, what made this flight ultra-special for me was the location. After a near-fatal BASE jumping accident I had sat on the face of a 600ft cliff in the Grose Valley and asked myself what I would have been disappointed about not doing in my life. Hang-gliding was one of those things. Here I was, six years (and one week) later running off a cliff under a different wing and looking down at that very same cliff from 9500ft up.

Fantastic stuff, hope you enjoy.

  • I Love it Beautiful!

What an excellent piece of music to go with it, please tell me the name!

  • @MrRickzc123 Thanks for the comment. The music is Younger Brother - Psychic Gibbon. If you like the psychedelic sound check out any of Simon Posford's work -- he's a musical genius.

  • What a difference a few days can make to the flying conditions of a site. That flight was like scoring 5 holes in one in a round of golf. Most people would be happy with one in a lifetime. Awesome footage soaring the convergence line. Go jono.

  • @bigfred190 Haha, I'm a glutton for punishment. Amazing experiences are always around the corner. Every blown-out day getting sunburnt on the hill is one less in the way of an extraordinary day. It's simple odds, I reckon ;).
