In 1970, a five-year-old boy named Kirk Murphy was subjected to an ex-gay experiment. Under the care of Dr Ivor Lovaas and George Rekers, then a doctoral student, of UCLA, he underwent therapy to eliminate supposed effeminate behaviors. In 1974, Lovaas and Rekers jointly published a paper about the boy they renamed "Kraig," heralding his treatment for "childhood cross-gender problems" a success and claiming he had been transformed from a gender-confused homosexual-in-waiting to a healthy, heterosexual young man. On the back of this study, Rekers built a career as an anti-gay activist and a supposed expert in childhood sexual development. He co-founded the Family Research Council and championed reparative therapy to turn gay men straight. In 2003, Kirk, aged 38 years old and gay, committed suicide.

I really don's understand these so called scientist reasoning. If you like vanilla sauce on your ice cream and hate chocolate sauce, which one would you eat on your ice cream. surely vanilla. Yeah sure you can be forced to eat the chocolate sauce, you can be forced to say you like chocolate sauce. But you will never really love the chocolate sauce. So what are these people trying to accomplish. Their only abusing people into something they don't like.

This series of videos is disturbing. The thought of what happened to Kirk Murphy fills me with great sadness; my heart goes out to his family. The knowledge of Kirk's suicide is especially hard to take. Why is the US so fundamentally harsh and closed about gender issues? Why are childre put through these programmes; they are destructive and lead to so much unhappiness.

IMO, Nicolosi's body language gives away that he's not telling the truth -- at least not the whole truth.

This sort of BS "therapy" often does more harm than good (does it ever do any good?), and it needs to be banned by the APA.
