In this version we implemented Sandro's recommendation (what are the friends for) to play the prelude in a slower tempo.

  • brilliant, but in the fugue I felt there was too much emphasis on the top voice as if it was some kind of dominant melodic line instead of bringing out the entries in all the parts and keeping them equally balanced.

  • @hamstavideos,

Thank you for the nice words and positive criticism. This performance has too many flaws to discuss. Simon was 12 y.o. and this piece was way above his actual level. He barelly managed to play the right notes let alone to achive the best sound and balance. But it was good step in the right direction.

  • just out of interest what make is the piano

also if you look at the link at the top it is borque music not indeed how you have labeled it "classical"

  • The piano is "Hamilton" by Baldwin 6'2" model H401. It is Chinese made, but is considered one of the good Chinese pianos.

Classical is used in my description as a generic name for this kind of music. Some people do not know that only a little part of the composers such as Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven are considered genuine classical composers. The others are Baroque, Romantics, Impressionists, etc., but these details are for the specialized articles rather than for the youtube amateur videos.

  • Amazing, 12! I'm a classroom music teacher and I'm learning this for a competition - I don't practice very often however it is taking me ages to even get my fingers round it! The prelude is a litte easier but it is stil, I would say, a very high grade. What is Simon going to do with his talent?

  • my daughter Jessica wanted to know how old you were when you recorded this.

  • the person who doesn't like this is trully def or dumb. Great playing!

  • You play very well boy. Congratulations.

  • :o thanks :D

  • @F1R1NMAHLAZAH It's meant to be played as a sixteenth note with a sixteenth rest in front of it, so it's a sustained staccato if that makes sense. :)

  • Actually, I'm not really sure about the total staccato... I tried that with my WTC I in C Minor but my teacher said it was meant to be a sort of portando... just an opinion :P

  • great work. my name is simon too and i can play this piece. in fact i watched your video with your teacher to get some helpful tips when i was learning it... you have great staccato and dynamics.... keep it up!
