STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- 07 December 2008. Progressive Democrat Debi Rose is running for the New York City Council in a special election to be held in February. With Mike McMahon headed to the Congress, Mayor Bloomberg will be obliged to schedule an election to select his replacement. Rose is a former president of the Staten Island African American Political Association (SIAAPA), a member of the Staten Island Mental Health Society and a well known figure on the Island. She has campaigned against the war in Iraq, for civil rights and is active with the local branch of the NAACP. Debi also served as an Obama delegate. In this clip she describes her reasons for launching a campaign to win a City Council seat.
