Bill Shankly announced his retirement as Liverpool manager on 12 July 1974. The football world, and Liverpool especially, went into shock as can be seen by the interviews conducted by Tony Wilson (then a young tv reporter)
he wasnt even welcome at melwood, he mentions in his book that everton was one of the few clubs that made him feel welcome at bellefield, goodison etc. i am a blue but shankley was great, a workers man, pity liverpool turned there back on him when he retired.
