TV-program from NRK (The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation), 2006. Part 1 of 3. Cohen is interviewed in his home in Montreal by the Norwegian reporter Helle Vaagland. The occasion for the interview is the recent publishing of Cohen's book, "The Book of Longing". Intro in Norwegian, then English dialogue with Norwegian subtitles. Total time: 29 min.

English translation of the Norwegian intro:
"Leonard Cohen has turned 72, and leads a sober life in his home town, Montreal. It is almost 20 years since his big hit, "I'm Your Man". It is 6 years since he left the buddhist monastery after several years as a monk. It is 2 years since his last record. Now he has published "The Book of Longing", a collection of poems and drawings."

  • leonard cohen saying that his book might bring pleasure is the most egocentric thing he will ever say

  • He seems such a friendly and humble man...

  • A lot of artists tend to get bitter when they`re becoming old (look at Dylan e.g.) complaining about the good old days. Nothing there with Leonard Cohen. I think to endure that gracefully is style, even more worthy than truth.

  • Wonderful; I'm happy to see some good interviews of Cohen. His genius will last the ages--and his songs will be sung for generations. By recording this you are not only doing an amazing thing for us today, but are also making a large and very philanthropic contribution to historical documentation.

  • Does that mean only by writing poetry you`re condemned to spent your whole live in a dive that looks like an enternal site, cooking your coffee water with a 2 $ heater, sitting on jaded chairs drying to get some music out of an 40 year old radio? I think the Canadian people should be a little bit more concerned about its only living genius and true contribution to universal literature.

  • I think the Israelis like David Orbach and Mike Brand sing better in French than Leonard Cohen. Really the Canadians should make an effort to sing better in French!

  • My bass speakers are basically doing most of the job on making Leonard's voice.. Really relaxing though

  • @blkcola Nawwww. Doubt is such a dangerous thing, robs you of getting to know potentially wonderful people.

  • @blkcola Nawwww. Have some faith in humankind. Don't let fear and DOUBT get in the way of that. Doubt is such a dangerous thing, robs you of getting to know potentially wonderful people.
