FAQ:
Q: What am I watching?
A: You are watching footage from an actual laser tag tournament.
Q: Laser tag has tournaments?
A: Yes. Many laser tag centers participate in local, regional, national, and international laser tag tournaments.
Q: Wht kind of laser tag is this? / I don't see any "lasers"?
A: The system that you are seeing is known as "Laser Storm". Like nearly every other type of laser tag, the system uses a burst of infrared light (the same as in your TV remote control) to register tags on other players. The actual light burst is used purely for aiming purposes. In Laser Storm you can be tagged in the from or back of the head via a headset, or down the tip of the "phaser".
Q: How are points scored?
A: Every time an opponent is tagged 1 point is scored. If an opponent tags a special target in the arena known as a "Pod", 5 points will be scored. The Pod in this footage is found when the camera pans to the left. The Pod is only able to be tagged when the green klaxon is lit up (this occurs every 16 seconds throughout the duration of the match). In this video the other team's Pod (red) is also visible in the distance.
Q: How is the game played?
A: Players start by "energizing" which is the process of charging the pack with shots and energy. For every energization the player receives 1 energy and 255 shots. When this occurs the player's headsets will become a solid color (either red or green based on which team they are on) and the phaser will be able to fire. The player then either takes up a defensive position or an offensive position on the field. Defensive players are attempting to prevent opponents from tagging their pod and thus scoring many points quickly. Offensive players are attempting to run the gauntlet of Defensive players and score the Pod. When a player is tagged by an opponent's beam, their headset lights will flash both red and green. They will be unable to shoot and can take no more hits until they return to an energizer and re-energize.
Q: How is the arena laid out?
A: Laser Storm uses a unique "Divided Arena" system. Players must remain on the side of the walls that correspond to thier color. These arenas are typically designed in interlocking patterns.
The map used for for this tournament can be found here:

All filming was done from the upper-left position of this map, just below the "E"

Q: How many players per team?
A: In this tournament there are 5 players per team. There are no restrictions to where a player may play so long as they are on their side of the field.
Q: What is all this yelling about?
A: There's are a lot of confusing chatter occurring during the game. A lot of the chatter is to call out positions of the opposing players. Other chatter is to communicate the status of yourself or your team.
