A quick fly through in ATI's version of nature. If I thought ATI would allow it, I'd probably move here...

The Nature Demo, version 1.1, is running on my Radeon X1950 Pro(512 megs DDR3, AGP 8X). Sorry about the dips in framerate, my computer doesn't do so well when recording video, at full size, via Fraps. The demo itself runs extremely well on my system, just not with Fraps recording.

  • Quite beautiful, thank for sharing. I love tech demos like this.

  • I do too, I'm a nut for tech demos. ATI has a full line of them on their site...and I've got quite a few recorded myself.

  • Hello. Im new to graphics cards. I am looking for a new card that is better than Intel Extreme Graphics. I run Windows XP Home Edition. Is ATI Radeon 8500 compatable with my system? If not do any cards come to mind that I might want to get? I plan on playing games like Battle for Middle Earth 2 and Oblivion. Thank you.

  • All cards should be compatible with your system, it just depends on if you can take full or half-height cards. You also need to find out what your graphics bus is(PCI, AGP or PCI-E). Once you've figured that out, a Radeon X1600 for either AGP or PCI-E will run Oblivion and most other games around that time. If you just have a regular PCI graphics bus, you won't be able to run almost anything. :(

  • It's amazing how great the water and grass textures look in this demo even though this demo was made almost a decade ago. The RADEON 8500 series were ahead of their time, much more ahead than even today's modern graphics cards. Very impressive.

  • Grass and water looks awkward

    They blend into one another

  • @OKaeporaGaeboraO Cool. : )

  • @PsilocybinDream Numbered wrong.

    You mean from 2.0c or 2.0b DOWN to 2.0 : )

Though I understand confusion since the DX 8.0/8.1shaders are counted as "1.1" "1.3" "1.4" lol

  • @kawaiifreak860 It is oke I ended up just building a new comp xD

  • @Belpowerslave I'm not using my 9200 (a Down sized 8500) however when I did I could run games like HL (the remake using the new HL2 engine) as well as Halo and even Elder scrolls (morrowind) at a blazing framerate in about "Medium" or "High" settings and it's a PCI card. : )

  • @OKaeporaGaeboraO This warning may be a bit late.

However I recommend checking your systems powersupply size (the little sticker on the side in the case) if it's below 300watts stick with the 8500, the 9700pro and up require a minimum of 300watts.

  • oh, the beauty of pixels , looking back at pacman and space invaders,,,, this is what theyve become.

  • use to love playing generals on this card, looked amazing at the time. only cost $400 at the time ; p

  • @OKaeporaGaeboraO look up the different busses on wiki (agp, pci, pci express) then after seeing the pics look inside your case note: that agp is pretty much always a brown slot.
