Scientists from the University of Gloucestershire and Bournemouth University believe there is a case to be made for embracing the changes and letting nature take its course.
In partnership with the Environment Agency the University of Gloucestershire is spearheading a project to involve local communities in the history and understanding of flooding in the lower reaches of the River Severn. And at Bournemouth University researchers are actively involved in the nature verses nurture debate to find a more sustainable means of managing our coastlines.
One thing is clear; as climate change makes environmental forces ever more unpredictable and the costs of flood and coastal defences rise; we need solutions for the future that work with nature, rather than against it.
