@TemplarX2 yes the Gothic style did develop in France, but in the 12th Century. We were originally discussing the Europe of 1066 which was a vastly different place to the Europe of the 1100s as times changed considerably.
Like you just said knowledge is transmissible and Belgium is a country of considerable wealth and firmly at the centre of the EU and thus will have the same 'technologies' as other Western European nations. I do see your point but that was a poor example to try and use.
@6324wood Of course some building methods passed over from Roman era (knowledge is of course transmissible) but Gothic was developed in France. In those days, you need formidable organization and efficient economy (medieval standards) to build a cathedral. You can't expect a country like Belgium to be a able to build something like the Eurotunnel, would you? Not because it is poor because it's economy/tech isnt on the scale of France/UK.
@Saxonsoldiers When Britian defeated the French in North America, it enabled the Louisiana Purchase, which, if it had not taken place, then the US would certainly have become a French speaking country, So really the British can say to the american, `that were it not for us, you would be speaking french, and mean it.
@nathan96berry Comparing to what?
Small sized cities, underpopulated, clearly badly defended.
Who can say england was richest than byzantium, or the HRE or even France? Even the muslim Emirs of Iberia were richer then the english king.

How good can this documentary be when it starts with the ridiculous statement "England, the richest country in europe"?

They didn't mention the loss at the Battle of Fulford.
Does that mean they didn't deem their deaths as important enough, or was it an oversight?
