@neelaakaasham Probably because we now know there is no ether. Figured it out 100 years ago and confirmed it. You know we have been to space. The idea of the ether existing in the first place was because people assumed light needed a medium to travel through (like sound)
MM theory found no fringe shift in the experiment. 2 assumptions are here: one, the earth rotates and revolves. two, an ether exists. If earth moves through the ether, there should be an "ether wind", thus giving a fringe shift. No shift observed. Means, either of the above assumptions is wrong. They concluded ther's no ether. Why cant the other be a conclusion too? That the earth could be stationary. That should give the same result as well. So i dont see why Malcolms argument is wrong.
MM experiment fails to show any fringe shift in the interference patterns. So the conclusion taken was: There's no ether!! But there is a second possibility. The experiment presupposes that earth rotates and revolves at a considerable speed, thus giving an "ether wind". Going with the argument of Redsky and Malcolm that earth is stationary, it should give the result MM actually found. Thus, from their point, MM experiment actually proves that earth is stationary and ether does exist.
