  • Was a DSM cited? So Monique knows because someone told her? Sorry, second hand or third hand info isn't sufficient . Perhaps, you can do some investigative work yourself and research probable diagnoses based upon the mental health manual since you are prone to believe something based upon someone else's opinion.

  • okay dude seriously im just saying what I have heard a couple of times. I have given you information that both Monique and the director LEe Daniels have discussed. If you dont believe me thats great I dont really care at this point. If you care so much you look it up yourself.

  • It's simple. You made an observation on Precious mother's mental health disorder. Just back up your observation with facts that's all. And no, I'm not pointing fingers. I'm far too astute for that.

  • watch Ellen degeneres' interview with Monique. she explains that the director Lee Daniels wanted her to be a monster and to explore her own life of being abused by her brother who was also mentally ill. I think she would know, after all she is portraying the character.

  • Could you please refer to the DSM 1 through 5 and categorize just what clinical mental heath disorder Precious' mother was suffering from since you and Monique insist that she that she had one. I wouldn't rely upon a untrained celebrity for an accurate assessment. Again, the problems that Precious inherited stemmed from social, economical and political disenfranchisement.

  • I promise u she had mental illness. Go look it up before u start pointing fingers.

  • @lotrlovermr Based on the clinical clientele that I have (I'm a therapeutic counselor for adults AND kids with PTSD), I'd describe her as likely having PTSD from her daughter being sexually abused by her own father. Precious' abuse was also traumatic for her as well ("I shut my fat-ass up" as she said). Add a very poor education, lack of clinical help, and VERY stressful living environment, her behavior won't come out as stereotyped M.I., it's just gonna come out as "evil"

  • I'm about two years too late, but thanks for the review, i'll give it a watch.

  • Ur room is messy!..lol:P

  • I'm dying to see Precious just for MoNique's performance. I love scene-stealing supporting performances like Angelina Jolie in Girl Interrupted/Playing By Heart, Amy Adams in Junebug, Catherine Zeta Jones in Chicago, Joan Allen in Pleasentville, Christopher Walken in The Deer Hunter, Chris Cooper in Adaptation and American Beauty, etc.

  • What do u mean it didnt need the "Hip Hop style" to it? They lived in FREAKING HARLEM.......HARLEM.....HARLEM........Halrem is hiphop and ganster and dark and grimmy......No offense but I dont think u understand that part.I am not being rude or anything But u have to have lived in the hood or seen the hood to understand...and just looking at u i can tell you've never seen the hood.

  • Good, quality review you gave there! I agree with pretty much every thing you said. However, I thought the fantasy scenes were a good choice. They were not only there because Precious needed a break from her reality. They were there because we, as the audience, needed a break from her reality. Without those scenes, the movie would have been even heavier, which would not have been a good thing. Actually, my only critiicism is that the movie was still too heavy for me to truly feel inspired.

  • I agree with you, girl!

The movie has it's problems, but Mo'Nique and Gaby are AMAZING!
