Kate and Anna McGarrigle perform "Why Must We Die?" on TV Ontario's "Studio 2" (July 23, 1997) soon after the release of their 1996 album "Matapedia". Performing with them are Michel Pépin (bass) and Joel Zifkin (violin).

The first 60 seconds are from a poor-quality source (VHS EP, linear audio, tracking problems) but the remainder is of higher quality (S-VHS SP, hi-fi audio).

This is Part 3 of 3.

  • I fell in love with this song when I heard it on the movie "Before Tomorrow" I'm glad I found it here.

  • I was in London to see the last performance ever of Kate, of course not knowing that it was going to be that way. Their voices together reached very far into the sky.

  • I saw them in a small venue In Vancouver, and they'd hoped to visit a cousin there who had just died: "And it's a bummer" --- this was, on that occasion, for her. I almost had to be carried out in tears. I think everyone eventually gets to have this song express their own mysterious sortow.

  • I WOPUD GOD BLESS ALL THAT

  • What an underrated voice Anna has. A lovely song.

  • I was in a daze when I read about Kate's death on their website. So what do I do next? Ahhh! Kate and Anna are forever young in their records, I'll still be a fan. I wished that I had the opportunity to thank them for the many years and years to come of entertainment!
