I was fortunate enough to hear Gary Burton with the early Larry Coryell grouping in a series of three concerts at Fairleigh Dickinson in Madison, Newark Rutgers and finally at Carnegie Recital Hall, the last of which was recorded and released by RCA. A prodigious talent, as is Larry Coryell, and a lovely guy. Ditto Steve Swallow and the entire group. Unpretentious and lovely people. Great stuff.
Absolute nutter! It's not like playing piano were the left hand plays the melody/solo and the right plays the root notes and the chords, Both hands are playing everything. Genius.

I just got the sheet music for this solo last night. I looked over and my jaw dropped. "This is going to take a lot of work"
In conclusion, Burton OWNS
