I like Lloyd Demause' work.

This model of psychology as a progressive phenomenon, the parent traumatizing the child, who traumatizes, it's child.

As the quality of life improves over time, parents experience fewer emotional insecurities to project onto their children, and the next generation grows up a little more emotionally secure than the last.

Ultimately, I think that psychology is very useful, but must be treated as a science, rather than a medicine.

the only insane idea is control. we can never fully understand the human mind and all of its workings, but we try. then when the scientists and psychiatrists are proven slightly wrong, they go to the void and emotionless numbers, they are errorless and cant be wrong, but they lack human judgement and understanding. until we have the power to read minds and control thoughts no one will be truely sane or insane.

The probably most frequent cause of depressions are antidepressant drugs. This is confirmed by the industry in the development of antidepressant drugs. Thus rats get an antidepressant drug in the first three life weeks, so that they show depressive characteristics as adults: Vogel, G., Neill, D., Hagler, M. & Kors, D. (1990). A new animal model of endogenous depression: a summary of present findings.

Now, let's address mental illness: we learn about mental illness and the effects it has on our lives. We decide if we need to concern ourselves about the issue, and if it effects us. If we believe we are effected, as we have determined by educating ourselves, we must decide on a course of action. We can change our lifestyles (getting out of an abusive relationship, stopping drugs, practicing relaxation techniques, saying positive daily affirmations), go to talk therapy, or buy medication...
