Why make a dovetail on the drawer joints instead of just a tenon?

We're making the same chess board with drawer in Class, (year 11 btw) and we've had 6 weeks to complete it and my one looks no where near yours lol! I think im the amateur. Its great fun though and you learn from your mistakes. So maybe next time...

great videos... you really make it look easy...
but i don't understand why you didn't make dovetails on the rears when you had the setup all ready?

The rear panels were much thinner, requiring an adjustment to my setup. Since they wouldn't show, and it's such a pain in the ass to set up my dovetail jig, I decided to skip them! I really need to learn how to hand cut dovetails.
