Well Tony shared the leadership with Brown didn't he? He never quite had the balls to get rid of Brown completely and was finally pushed out of number 10. Whereas Thatcher ruled alone. I don't think old Tony "let someone else have a go" at all, he just lost all his political capital due to the chaos of Iraq's post invasion period. He bet on its success and lost big time. Although i'd agree that Tony Blair was magnanimous in his defeat... but he always was a slick operator wasn't he?.
