Just playing around with some metal tubing. Yes it is pretty much just a torch.

--edit--

This was NOT a successful attempt at replicating a ramjet. The airspeed is too low and thrust was minimal. Please refrain from pointing this out time and time again :D

  • Nitroburn, using direct air injection from what it looks like a compressor hose although very clever, is technically not a true ram jet. The point of a ram jet is to use RAM air to operate. That is why they operate only at extremely high speeds 400 kt+ in most models I have seen. The air from the compressor will never behave like atmospheric airflow. I advice to place the jet at the tip of a rotating length of pipe then test it. The logistics are a little hard to overcome but worth the effort.

  • Yes, I get that it is not a ramjet and in this video is not working. That is why the video says (failed).

  • so is a candle a ramjet?

  • No.

  • Nice idea! I would imagine you cant propel the jet to necessary speeds, but if you could propel air through the jet fast enough to begin with, it might work? I think its the momentum of air moving that has to start the process. Then as new air enters the hot zone, it expands, and pushes out the back and sucks in the font and you've started the whole process!

  • I need to use a gas powered blower with a reducer that is capable of delivering high airspeed. Then yes, if you put it on a sliding force gauge, it will pull into the oncoming air.

  • torches and ram jets use the same principles

  • I'd rather call it "experimental" or "test ramjet", not "failed". Attached to plane or maybe even very fast vehicle (TGV, bullet-train, motorcycle?) this just might work. I'm not sure about the minimal speed, but I'd say 300 km/h is an absolute minimum.

  • pretty cool man

  • At least it would be great heating torch....

  • More like a Loch Ness monster. :p

  • sounds like a UFO

  • i mean the blue flame

  • that looks like afterburner, lol
