Monte is a young hedgehog - less than two years old - who appears to be in the late stages of a neurological disease, likely Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome (WHS). Because WHS cannot be diagnosed until after the hedgehog has died and a necropsy has been performed, Monte's body will be sent for study one he passes.
Monte also has an upper respiratory system infection, which is why his nose is so moist and he's constantly licking it; he's being treated with antibiotics.
At this point, though Monte has very limited mobility, he is still alert, aware, and interested in his surroundings. He is currently being syringe-fed a special food and receives massage treatments as well.
