Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion created a storm of controversy over the question of God's existence. Now, in The Greatest Show on Earth, Dawkins presents a stunning counterattack against advocates of "Intelligent Design" that explains the evidence for evolution while keeping an eye trained on the absurdities of the creationist argument.

More than an argument of his own, it's a thrilling tour into our distant past and into the interstices of life on earth. Taking us through the case for evolution step-by-step, Dawkins looks at DNA, selective breeding, anatomical similarities, molecular family trees, geography, time, fossils, vestiges and imperfections, human evolution, and the formula for a strong scientific theory.

Dawkins' trademark wit and ferocity is joined by an infectious passion for the beauty and strangeness of the natural world, proving along the way that the mechanisms of the natural world are more miraculous -- a "greater show" -- than any creation story generated by any religion on earth.

  • I have a question that I would have like to ask Richard Dawkins. If natural selection is just a blind process. How come the eye has evolved 14 different times in diffferent family trees? It seams almost desided that eyes should evolve again and again.

  • @mnemoniccourier Natural Selection isn't a "blind process," it's a process that organisms go through to benefit themselves. The eye keeps changing, or evolving, because the eye is not perfect; therefore, by a sense of trial and error if you will, the eye will keep evolving because the eyes with distinct benefits will succeed over the others, which is natural selection.

  • Why would you dislike this?? Pure genius!

  • the penguins didn't want to go the same way as the polar bears out of the ark, Richard. The polar bears didn't notice the penguins sneaking off. Jeez what a douche bag!

  • Baby universes lol.

  • The designer would design animals to establish homeostatic ecosystems.

  • @mnemoniccourier Convergent evolution, eg. sharks and dolphins are quite similar looking, yet they are not very closely related, this is because this form is best suited to this environment

  • @smellyfry Maybe all of them are wrong. But whether any religion is right or wrong, there isn't anything within their belief that should cause violence or war between them or any other religion or group. The fact that opposing groups have been at war for so long just indicates how misguided those people are, how little they understand their religion, and how little they respect the rights of other peoples beliefs. We don't all need to agree on a belief in order to have world peace.

  • 3 people dont like their ancestors were monkeys.
