@tombslasher it is in fact a combonation of shotokan Karate and Kyong nae (the art of foot fighting, a Korean martial art) the founder General Choi Hong Hi studied intesively in these two martial arts and combined them with bits and pieces with other martial arts, it is almost like jeet kune do but believes in patterns and was created before.
Ok But i have read taekwondo untill 1960's practised shotokan kata pretty much and it had major influence. Also Taekwondo high kicking did influence shotokan and other karates.
No, They are similar, but not the same. It is possible one inspired the other, but it is somewhat known that Taekkyon is the "father" of Tae Kwon Do. I wouldn't be surprised if the Japanese, when they took control of Korea during the middle ages, they were met with Taekkyon, and called it a deadly martial art. I believe Shotokan was inspired from Taekkyon.
But hey, if I'm wrong, who cares?! Each martial art is awesome in its own way.
xD que fino men

taekwondo and shotokan kata are the same? I think taekwondo is base on shotokan karate with added taekyon kicking.
