Hartford Courant columnist Colin McEnroe has suggested that Frank Capra's 1941 classic "Meet John Doe" was the McCain/Palin campaign's inspiration and blueprint for their "I'm with Joe the Plumber" election strategy. The intent of this gambit is to recast McCain as the candidate of the 'Average Joe (six-pack).'

What do you think?

  • Fitting that this film is in the public domain, i.e., it belongs to the common man. Unfortunately, that means no studio wants to bankroll a high-quality restoration and DVD/Blu-Ray treatment of it. A new, better-than-usual 70th Anniversary Edition was recently released, so I am thankful for that.

  • Way to go John Doe!

Indeed. There are several more monologues. In many respects, each better than its predecessor. And included among them is probably one of the two or three best drunk scenes I've ever seen.

"LIGHTHOUSES, John. Lighthouses in a foggy world."

This film deserves a quality DVD release so much that it isn't funny.

  • 6:40 ... the rich guy seeing his servants listening intently about freedom and the common man... DANGEROUS STUFF!

  • 8.35 she just breaks my heart!

  • errr..I mean...heard...lol. =P
