Malaysian Parliament: 1957 - 2011 - Memorial Service

The Malaysian Parliament passed away on Tuesday, 29 November 2011, at about 4.00pm at its historical home on Jalan Parlimen during the passing of the Peaceful Assembly Bill 2011.

The Parliament leaves behind 28 million heartbroken Malaysians, including the Fisherman, the Postal Worker, the Nasi Lemak Mak Cik, the Kindergarten Teacher, the Retired Old Man, Teenagers, the Unemployed Fresh Graduate and many others of who looked to it as a place where their voices could be heard.

A memorial service for Parliament was held yesterday 1 December 2011 at 8.30pm just outside its home with a non-religious wake open to all who keenly feel its loss. It was an emotional service indeed, accompany with the rain, it brings the setting of the service to its rightful mood.

On 5 August, 1957: Tengku Ampuan Kursiah, the 1st Permaisuri Agong said:"The women of Malaya must take more interests in the affairs of their country after independence. Women of all races will have much more important part to play. Malay women in particular must be more progressive. I hope that with independence, they will strive to better themselves."

I like this "memorial service" idea. Brilliant! Perhaps people should organize other memorials too - to remember the passing of many other things in society that we've lost, like empathy, integrity, respect, courtesy etc...
