@IC1101 As a matter of fact, there were explicit appeals to the Christian religion to justify the genocide of the Native American population. That Christians were imperial does nothing to detract from the fact that Islam, too, was imperial.

We should support the middle easts only democracy and if Israel never existed muslims would still be at war with the west because in doing so they are doing what the qu`an tells them to do. Infact since the 7 century up till the 1st world war they have either invaded or attempted to invade Europe and now since the seventies they are taking Europe from within. As for slavery it was Arabs who sold the slaves to the west and muslims are still dealing in slaves till this very day

One thing that is important for you to keep in mind is that someone can say that Islam stands for something, when in reality, it could be very different.

Regarding the 'Islamic' pirates, judging from the time period, I'd say it was because of some sort of colonial/imperialist movement from Europe in the intermediate geographical area that instigates the Jihad ideology. If you are oppressed, drive them out. Then again, I'm not educated about this particular subject.

Islam is not Imperial. Imperialism is based on expanding one nation's culture and creating satellite peripheries that are economically dependent and reliant on the parent or core state. While Islam did try to create a culture, based fundamentally on its religious core onto places where it had spread, it was not aiming for economic gain. At least, not within the religion itself. Now the question is, was it used as a means for that? Sometimes yes, others no.

Well the pirates were motivated by greed..... plain and simple. And i do agree Bin Laden is upset with U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia...... possibly his #1 motivation. But without a doubt the # 1 motivation for overall hatred toward America from the Muslim world is the result of Israel. Bin Laden is a Saudi and there are personal issues there with him and the rulers there dating back to the gulf war..
